When it is finally released, when the ring road has been connected, it would be well to close your library doors. Tiny green dragons living in the spines of old hardbacks, fireless through long practice.

It is rather embarrassing for a dragon to live in a book that they have not personally read all the way through as other dragons may expect them to approve of all the content in their home, so they have grown skilled at making distractions long enough to get a good read; if you ever see a small dragon manipulating the door-bell of a library, this is why.

Library guardian, sits on a pillar, apparently made of stone. Cannot see particularly well; by arrangement, the librarian comes out each morning and reads a page or two to it, and the dragon nods and smiles in its slow creaky way and then goes back to sleep. Occasionally children sit on its head.

As expected, I wasn't as enthralled with this informational book as I was with the main story, but this is a great companion.

It was great. It was very funny and it told you lots of facts about made up funny Dragons. Nov 02, Alexis Barth rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have such an obsession for dragons, and to actually have been able to discover this book was a miracle. Jul 06, aarifa rated it it was amazing.

The use of colors are fantastic and the art style is refreshingly unusual. You definitely get the gist of what is going on in the series through this book but it's still not enough to enjoy by its lonesome.

There's a lot of unexplained references and much of the vocabulary it uses only makes sense if you're a fan. Maybe a kid, young and impressionable, would enjoy this even without having read the rest of the series. I know I would have.

Oct 13, Karlie rated it it was amazing Shelves: My four year old adores the How to Train Your Dragon movies. He thinks dragons are awesome and likes to pretend he is a dragon. When we found out there was a book series, we had to check it out. This is the first one we bought, because it is full of color photos alongside the writing, which is laid out like Hiccup's own journal.

My son will get the book out and just look at the pictures and occasionally ask me what the dragon's name is that he is looking at. Unfortunately, most of the dragons are completely different from the movie; however, there are so many more dragons, and my boy loved them all anyway, he just missed his favorites from the movies. No page on night furies?! We thought it was hilarious that there was a section on dragon poop.

We are looking forward to reading the series together. Jan 01, Elizabeth rated it really liked it Shelves: I haven't previously had any experience with this series, and grabbed this on a whim. I figured it would give me a taste of what the book series had to offer, and it's always fun to read about dragon varieties.

Not having much experience with these books, I was surprised to see how different they are from the movies. It was definitely not an unpleasant surprise, and it definitely increased my interest in the novels. The illustrations are cute and ferocious from page to page, the work put into the I haven't previously had any experience with this series, and grabbed this on a whim.

The illustrations are cute and ferocious from page to page, the work put into the world-building is impressive, and it gave just enough hints at the plot that it has my full interest and attention. I got exactly what I was looking for out of this book. After reading this, I fully intend on picking up the main series, as it seems to be a very promising read.

Jan 09, Marie rated it really liked it Shelves: This is the first book in the series I've actually read instead of listening to the David Tennant narrated audio book. The hard cover version of this book is well crafted with a sturdy appealing cover, thick glossy pages, and loads of illustrations.

Honestly, the art isn't awesome, but there is still something appealing about it. While the main text is typed, there are also plenty of h Fun! While the main text is typed, there are also plenty of handwritten notes - which can occasionally be a bit tough to read as Hiccup's handwriting isn't fantastic. I read this with my six-year-old son. He was especially excited about the bit on identifying dragon droppings.

Dec 28, Angie rated it liked it. I liked the book, a lot of information, like an enciclopedia, the drawings and the handwriting are intriguing.

Also I liked the Dragonese section. Now, here is the issue with what I am dealing with, because I have read the Draconomicon. Due to reading the Draconomicon, I felt the information somehow incomplete and more fantastic.

Of course, I am comparing a guide with a more complex lore with this guide which is related to Hiccup's world. Maybe it is necessary that I read the whole saga so I can I liked the book, a lot of information, like an enciclopedia, the drawings and the handwriting are intriguing.
