The educational content is very good IMO. But it stops there. I purchased the 6th edition for a school requirement, and as others have mentioned, the binding disintegrated, pages falling out, etc.. I now purchased the 7th edition since it is updated for the ACI material, and the reviews seemed high. I realize now that the reviews are for all versions of the book, not just the 7th edition. This 7th edition is printed on extremely low quality paper. It's similar to the cheapest paper you can buy for your home printer.

The low quality paper makes the book about a third larger than the previous editions, although the number of pages between all versions is only around 10 pages. The low quality finish on the paper results in a lot of see-through properties.

So while you read a page there is a lot of background showing through from the pages beneath what you are reading. I attached several images showing the 3 versions size comparison; the binding of 6th edition; and size and see-through properties of the 7th edition.

You can see the 7th edition is just plain white paper. I hope it helps others to be informed buyers.

I am returning this 7th edition promptly. The 6th edition is low quality construction. The 7th edition is lower quality construction than the 6th. Fool me twice with the 7th edition - shame on me. I really did like the content and wish I could find the new edition in a normal textbook quality. This forces me to find a different book entirely Most of my design work is in steel, but occasionally I have a concrete beam, wall, or slab to design.

I am also studying for the SE exam, so I need to brush up on concrete. My original reference was outdated, and the writing was very turgid, making the reference pretty much useless This one is VERY well written, and has easy to follow examples. It also provides cross references to ACI for the methodology and equations. The illustrations are also very good and easy to understand.

I purchased the 7th edition to help my study for the SE exam as it references ACI and there are a broad range of topics covered. As others have mentioned, the binding quality is mediocre and there are fewer example problems than I would have liked to see. This book is excellent for theory, but lacking in other areas.

The paper back version is different from the hard cover when it comes to practice problems. The two have them on different pages and they have different values for load, areas, etc.

The quality is extremely poor- I am not The content of the book is great. The quality is extremely poor- I am not hard on my textbooks at all and after a single semester it looked much worse for wear than it should have.

If you wanna know how concrete works, this is the book for you. I use it for work to determine loads for crane and building structures. Makes the work really easy and there are so many example problems to help guide you down the right path. Absolutely wonderful reference material.
