The Cockroach Dance Mwangi's works have received awards in Kenya and abroad, they have been translated into six languages, and there are film versions of two of his novels.

While Mwangi has touched on all of these concerns, we might divide his work into three major categories.

The first comprises his Mau Mau novels. For many Kenyan writers, the armed resistance to British colonialism in Kenya, which came to be known as the Mau Mau revolt and reached its height in the s, was a far-reaching experience. Weapon of Hunger is perhaps Meja Mwangi's best book yet.

Guide The Cockroach Dance

This ticks off his frustrating journey of passionately imploring Mr Kimende, the meters superintendent, to transfer him back to his old job. It is a futile endeavour because Kimende considers Dusman as his best parking meters employee. He is a demented man psychologically tortured by the fear of losing his job to an expatriate which ironically comes to be eventually.

It is Kimende who suggests that Dusman should visit Dr Bates for psychological help when Dusman confides in his boss that his job and the life in Dacca House are driving him insane.

The Cockroach Dance

The conversations between Bates and Dusman reveal the extent of the psychological paranoia Dusman is experiencing. Dusman seems to hate everyone and everything.

Sadly he cannot explain why he harbours loathsome feelings for his neighbours at Dacca House. He also categorically states that he cannot stand the sight of the cockroaches dancing, the filth and the general decay of his place of abode.

The sight of the Bathroom Man revolts him because he cannot fathom how a grown up can allow to be squeezed into a tiny bathroom space together with his wife and retarded child. It is only Toto his roommate that he seems to have a near normal human interaction with. You will learn about buying land cheaply, how to get shelter, how to power your place, this is something that can get expensive, but Creekmore tells you how to do it on the cheap.

He also tells you how to deal with waste and sanitation, about security, food, water and more. I wanted inside knowledge and interesting content as described above.

Instead, I received a completely inflated book that was the exact opposite of "straightforward". The book is filled with useless anecdotes that the author apparently just pulled out of his ass.

Building A Bug Out Bag Does Not Have to Be Hard

In one case, he spent an entire paragraph explaining that he wasn't sure whether or not the above anecdote was even true, since "some guy at an autoshop told me" that "A leaky propane tank will explode and kill your family of it comes in contact with static electricity" and he wasn't sure whether or not that was physically possible. He spent pages explaining his personal relationship to the topic instead of getting to the point and using the little space he had constructively.

He took content from other, better books and dumbed it down to the point where it became useless to the reader. For instance, he wrote pages about the importance and significance of a personal well but never actually gave any real information about the process, instead sending the reader to a third-party internet site.

The book had little to do with actual survival. He attempted to compensate for this lack by adding another Frankenstein of a chapter onto the end of the book where he simply listed weapons that he thinks you should have, without discussing the weapons pricing, advantages themselves.
