13 Books About Falling For Your Best Friend, Because It Happens More Than You'd Think

Together since fourth grade, Lily and Harper are BFFs who begin their freshman year in different schools.

Lily has always been the outsider and Harper the popular one. When the year begins, their roles are reversed and each has difficulty navigating their changed status. Always unique, Lily wears fairy wings and marches to the beat of her own drum.

At her new creative school, she immediately hits it off with the in-crowd, becoming a fashion trendsetter.

Harper, usually the quintessential popular California girl, starts off her freshman year with detention and soon after becomes the star of an embarrassing viral video.

At a time when the two girls need each other the most, they just can't connect. There are touching moments, and the dialogue feels genuine. However, secondary characters, with the notable exception of Lily's former and Harper's current love interest Tim, seem mostly two-dimensional, created to represent an archetype.

Only the two best friends are fully formed. This creates a problem because the bulk of the action takes place when the two main characters are separated.

As in most light friendship stories, the friends are somewhat unrealistically reunited in the end. See all Editorial Reviews.

A YA novel that's enjoyable for adults as well. Believable characters and plot! One person found this helpful. It's good.

Very nice history but I can't finish to read the book right now, it's funny and reflect whats is a friend is nicely a girls story. Love this book! I really wanted to love this one.

It sounds so fun! And I love stories about best friends! I think the issue really comes down to age. They experience a language delay causing them to have a harder time playing with other children.

Most children with Down syndrome may prefer to watch other students and play alongside a friend but not with them, mostly because they understand more than they can outwardly express.

In preschool years, children with Down syndrome can benefit from the classroom setting, surrounded by other children and less dependent on adult aid. Children with this disability benefit from a variety of interactions with both adults and children. At school, ensuring an inclusive environment in the classroom can be difficult, but proximity to close friends can be crucial for social development.

Conversely, loneliness and a lack of social supports have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease , viral infections , and cancer , as well as higher mortality rates overall. Two researchers have even termed friendship networks a "behavioral vaccine " that boosts both physical and mental health.

Most of the studies in this area are large prospective studies that follow people over time, and while there may be a correlation between the two variables friendship and health status , researchers still do not know if there is a cause and effect relationship, such as the notion that good friendships actually improve health.

A number of theories have attempted to explain this link. These theories have included that good friends encourage their friends to lead more healthy lifestyles; that good friends encourage their friends to seek help and access services when needed; that good friends enhance their friends' coping skills in dealing with illness and other health problems; and that good friends actually affect physiological pathways that are protective of health.

However, no similar effect was observed for males. Show related SlideShares at end. WordPress Shortcode. Published in: Full Name Comment goes here. Are you sure you want to Yes No.
